Temple of the Tooth

This highly venerated Buddhist temple houses the Tooth Relic of the Buddha. Known as Dalada Maligawa this 14th century spectacular building stands by the Kandy Lake.

Botanical gardens of Peradeniya and the University of Peradeniaya

Only about a mile and half away from the house, is the suburban town of Peradeniya. Peradeniya botanical gardens are famous for its wealth of tropical plants and trees. The Mahaweli River runs across the gardens making it a cool oasis for the visitors. Opposite to the gardens is the main University of Sri Lanka. The location of the University is worth a visit.

Kandy Esala Perahera 2015

The famous Esala Perahera or temple procession is a breathtaking spectacle for the visitors. The procession includes more than hundred decorated elephants, hundreds of drummers, dancers and other performers.

Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage

Wolrd’s only elephant orphanage is at Pinnawela near Kandy. In the orphanage elephants are fed and bathed. Bottle-feeding of baby elephants is fascinating to view.

Nuwara Eliya

Sigiriya und Dambulla

A day trip is sufficient to see the famous Sigiriya Rock Fortress and the Dambulla cave temple. In the Cool tea Capital Nuwaraeliya, acres and acres of tea estates and colonial heritage are in store.
